The Chairman of the Electronic Communications Tribunal, Kissi Agyabeng, who is a legal practitioner has reportedly been penciled as the next Special Prosecutor (SP).
According to Daily Graphic sources, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will soon announce the nomination of Kissi Agyebeng as the anti-corruption agent in his government.
When approved by Parliament, Agyabeng will replace Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu, who resigned on November 15, 2020.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu, resigned from his position.
Amidu resigned from his position on November 16, 2020, through a letter addressed to the president, Nana Akufo-Addo.
In his resignation letter, Amidu suggested that President Akufo-Addo has not been able to ensure the independence of his office and his freedom to act on matters.
Amidu cited feedback on his recently submitted corruption risk assessment on Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions as one of the triggers that have got him to resign.
According to the former Attorney General, while he had thought that he was doing his work independently, reactions to his report have indicated otherwise.
He thus sees his position as the Special Prosecutor untenable and has decided to resign with immediate effect.
Akufo-Addo stated that he will do everything within his power to bring the menace to an end in his second term, by January 2025.
He made this known at an event when the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House on Friday, April 23, 2021.
