One local lady is definitely proving it's never too late to turn your situation around. After Fortunate Makgeru got accepted to study for her dream career at university, the journey to graduation proved an uphill battle for the determined young lady.
The young woman had begun her studies towards becoming an optometrist back in 2014. Fortunate says she never really felt as smart as the other students but kept coming back year after year hoping she might do better academically.

After continuously failing modules over and over, the young woman was let go by her financial aid and had to find other ways to fund her studies. She also managed to juggle her studies with the many challenges of motherhood after falling pregnant back in 2018.
Her inspiring story was shared by the popular student forum Varsity World this week
She writes:
"If a few a years back someone told me I will be a qualified Optometrist and contact lens practitioner one day I wouldn’t have believed them because my academic journey was a tough one. I am writing this to inspire those who feel like giving up, to hold on.
"Reading this you’ll realise it took me 7 years to complete a 4-year course. I kept telling myself that time isn’t a factor, the prize is... No matter how difficult it was, God was there. Today it’s paying the bills, no matter how long it took me to complete."
The encouraging young woman had Mzansi's hearts melting. Check out some of the good wishes for Fortunate in the comments section:
