Attaining a laudable milestone in life is worth celebrating, especially when one worked tirelessly for it, and Derrick Parker has earned his strides.
At 24, Parker has graduated from Harvard Law School, achieving a goal he set some years ago.
During a graduation ceremony in high school over four years ago, he vowed that he would be the person to deliver the valedictorian address at his next graduation.
Four years later, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from Morehouse College, graduating as valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA
''Four years ago, when I was sitting in the audience at my high school graduation, I made a vow to myself that the next place that I graduated from, I would be the one who gave the valedictorian address.
''Well, four years later, I have just been named the valedictorian of Morehouse College! Keeping a 4.0 GPA for eight straight semesters has not been easy, but when you remain steadfast in your pursuits, no mountain is too high and no valley is too low,'' he said.
Parker began another journey to attain a law degree from Harvard Law School and has finally realised his dream.
''I’m 24, and today, I graduated from Harvard Law School. I am my ancestors’ wildest dream,'' he posted on LinkedIn.
In a separate story, Harry Asah has earned a Bachelor's degree in Automobile Engineering from the Koforidua Technical University.
Despite his economically deprived background and struggle with stigma due to a minor disability, he has defeated the odds, bagging a degree in Automobile Engineering.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh, Asah disclosed he had a rough childhood because he had to deal with stigma from society due to the disability.
