Police On Manhunt For Armed Robbers Who Attacked Mining Site And Shot Manager

The police are on a search for armed robbers who attacked a mining company in Akyem Akokoaso in the Eastern Region on Friday night, May 24, 2024.

According to a police report, at 7pm, about 15 masked assailants stormed the premises of the Jia Xin Industrial Mining Company and attacked its managers, who were all Chinese nationals.

Two of the managers were shot, while one managed to escape unhurt. Of the two who were shot, one was hit in the leg and the other in the crotch area.

Following the attack, the assailants ransacked the premises, doing away with about GH¢1 million and two gold bars.

The victims of the incident were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital and are currently responding to treatment.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Akyemansa District Police Command in the Eastern Region has set up a 24-hour security post at the mining company to quell further robbery attempts. It stated that the company had been a target of several other attacks.

Police constable dies after vehicle falls into Galamsey pit

Earlier this year, a police constable, Prince Amoah, died after the police vehicle he was onboard fell into an illegal mining pit.

Amoah was part of a reported anti-galamsey operation when the accident occurred at Enchi-Kwawu in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.

According to reports, his team was trying to apprehend some illegal miners at Enchi-Kwawu. The car was passing on a wooden bridge when it collapsed and plunged them into the mining pit filled with water.

Four other policemen in the vehicle were injured and sent to the Samreboi Government Hospital for treatment.

Residents in the area said this was the second time a police vehicle had fallen into a pit at a galamsey site.

Two dead following a clash between miners and Forestry Commission officers

YEN.com.gh reported that two persons were killed after a clash between forestry officers and miners at Mfante near Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Two other persons were also wounded during the clash, which took place at a mining site on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Forestry officers allegedly stormed the area, and two of the persons guarding the site were shot dead.

Two of the miners also sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Tepa Government Hospital.
