Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Executive Secretary to President Nana Akufo-Addo, is very much alive.
This is according to the presidency amid circulating rumours claiming the politician had passed.
Asante is currently receiving medical treatment in the US after falling ill while on official duty.
GNA reported that the Executive Secretary to the President had suffered a stroke in the US and had undergone lengthy surgery.
While the Presidency's statement did not divulge such details, doctors were treating the newly-appointed Ambassador-at-Large.
Part of the statement read as follows:
“He is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment. According to the medical team, Nana Bediatuo Asante’s recovery is on track, and we remain hopeful for his swift return to full strength."
“We ask for continued prayers and support for him and his family during this difficult period. Further updates will be provided when necessary.”
President Nana Akufo-Addo recently appointed Asante as an Ambassador-at-Large. He has served as the President’s Executive Secretary since 2017.
Asante has faced controversy in the past, including being accused of slashing the budget estimates for the legislature and the judiciary in 2021.
Former Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu later recanted that position, saying he never said Asante unilaterally wrote that budget cuts letter.
