7 Persons Granted Bail After Arrest for BECE Malpractice

Seven people, including high-ranking school officials, have been granted police enquiry bail following their arrest for alleged examination malpractice during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The incident took place at the Kyebi Amanfrom Basic School examination centre, located in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The arrests have sent shockwaves through the educational community due to the roles held by the suspects. Among those apprehended were two headteachers and two teachers.

Additionally, a senior examination supervisor and several invigilators were caught up in the operation, which was reportedly triggered by suspicious activities at the centre during the ongoing national exams.

According to reports by Citi Newsroom, the individuals were taken into custody to assist with investigations into the nature and extent of the malpractice.

While they have been granted bail, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and security agencies are expected to maintain a strict watch over the centre to ensure the remainder of the examination period is conducted fairly.

Nurses accompany new mum writing BECE

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that two nurses from the Ogbojo Polyclinic within the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region accompanied a new mum to her exam centre to sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Gloria and Janet, who are both health workers at the Ogbojo Polyclinic, were assigned to the new mum since she expressed a desire to write the BECE despite her condition.
