Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, attempted to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, but things took a turn while they were weighing the cooked food.

The giant pot collapsed during the weighing process. The team stopped weighing in order to ensure safety.

In a Facebook video, the team used a crane to lift the huge pot onto a scale for an official verification. However, the pot collapsed even before it could be lifted fully, causing panic among some spectators.

Even though the pot collapsed, Hilda and her team are certain the certification process will be recognised.

The giant custom-made pot measured six metres wide and six metres tall, with a capacity of 22,619 litres.

Hilda Baci intended to use 5,000 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice, about 250 bags. However, due to weighing challenges, she said she reduced it to 4,000 kilogrammes, or 200 bags.

The event, dubbed ‘Gino World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci’, started on Friday, September 13, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

Hilda Baci criticises Ghanaian jollof

YEN.com.gh reported that Hilda Baci claimed jollof from Ghana lacked flavour and was not better than Nigerian jollof.

During an interview on the UK-based podcast 90sBabyShow, Hilda Baci said she had tasted jollof from Ghana, but it is not up to par.

She spoke highly of the jollof from her home country, Nigeria.
