The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced that all its offices across Ghana will soon have the capacity to print driver's licences on-site, a move aimed at cutting delays that have stretched to nearly a year for some applicants.

DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey disclosed this during the commissioning of a newly established DVLA office at Amrahia in the Adenta Municipality.

Kotey told the media the shift to decentralised, local printing is intended to resolve long-standing complaints about the time it takes to receive a driver's licence after completing the application process.

Under the current system, applicants frequently wait months for their cards to be produced and delivered.

The CEO noted that instant on-site printing will initially apply to replacement cards, allowing those who have lost or damaged their licences to receive new ones without the extended wait currently associated with the process.

For first-time applicants, the standard licensing procedure will remain in place.

Kotey confirmed that new drivers will still be required to go through the full three-month process before a licence is issued, as the authority maintains existing requirements around testing and certification.

The commissioning of the Amrahia office marks part of the DVLA's broader effort to expand its physical presence and improve service delivery at the local level, bringing licensing services closer to residents across the country.
