The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has confirmed that electricity supply across all areas hit by a system disturbance on Thursday, August 20, 2026, has been fully restored.
The company disclosed the development in a press statement released on Friday, August 21, noting that its engineers, working alongside technical teams drawn from across Ghana's power sector, mobilised immediately after the disturbance occurred.

Power restored by Friday afternoon
According to GRIDCo, full restoration was achieved by 12:03 p.m. on Friday, bringing an end to the disruption that had affected communities across the country.
The company acknowledged the role played by sector stakeholders, expressing appreciation for their cooperation and support during the recovery operation.
GRIDCo's commitment to grid reliability
Beyond the immediate fix, GRIDCo stated its intention to push ahead with broader measures designed to reinforce the reliability, stability and resilience of Ghana's national transmission network.
The company did not provide specific details on what triggered the disturbance.
GRIDCo also directed a word of thanks to members of the public, recognising the patience and understanding shown throughout the period of disruption.

Electrician warns victims against restoring power
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that an electrician had warned residents affected by recent floods in Ghana to have their electrical systems professionally inspected before restoring power.
Flood-damaged wiring posed serious risks of electric shock and fire outbreaks, prompting calls for ECG to step up public safety education.
President Mahama had also directed the release of GHS 300 million from the Contingency Fund to support flood relief and prevention efforts.
