Amoah was reported missing for days after he left his residence on July 3, 2025, for a meeting with a friend, Bright Aweh, at Aggie’s Spot in Ashongman Estate.
His friend reportedly owed the late officer over GH¢200,000, which he had received to help facilitate employment opportunities for some individuals.
Amoah was never seen again after the meeting until July 9, 2025, when the Ghana Police Service discovered his charred remains in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya.
An investigation followed, which led to the arrest of Bright Aweh, who was arraigned before court on murder charges. Police later arrested a second suspect.

Imprecation, or curse by spoken word, is a common practice in some Ghanaian cultures, especially the Akans, who call it ‘duabo’.
These curses typically come in the form of the invocation of supernatural powers or river deities aimed at seeking justice for a perceived harm suffered.
Suspect in Stephen Amoah’s death passes away
Amoah’s family's curses occurred following reports that a third alleged suspect in the case had already died.
According to the late officer’s brother, a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer handling the murder case informed him that one of the suspects in the immigration officer's death had passed away.

In a chat with YEN.com.gh, Ghanaian journalist Stella Annan called for Stephen Amoah's family to be given urgent psychological support to deal with the trauma of his murder.
"Judging from the gruesome way Amoah was allegedly murdered, and by no mean a person than his friend, the family will definitely be distraught. This is a very difficult period for them, and they will need all the psychological support required while the law takes its course in dealing with those who committed this murder," she said.
Annan added: "With the anger within the family, if they do not get psychological support, they might mete out instant justice on the suspects. So there is an urgent need for such support to be provided while the trial is ongoing to give them closure on the sad situation."
