A young Ghanaian chef is trending for the right reasons after she embarked on a record for the longest cooking marathon (cook-a-thon) by an individual.

Chef Sabiatu Mahazu, who is on a quest to make Ghana proud and cement her legacy in the Guinness Book of Records, commenced her cooking marathon on Saturday, September 5, 2025.

The marathon, which is set to conclude on Friday, September 12, will see her attempt to cook for 150 hours in an effort to set a new world record.

The event is taking place at the forecourt of the Jakpa Palace in Damongo in the Savannah Region.

A video sighted by YEN.com.gh on TikTok shows many people massing at the venue to offer support and cheer her on as she cooks non-stop for days.

An adorable moment showed Chef Sabiatu Mahazu in a happy mood as she enjoyed the performance of an artist who was singing to cheer her on.

Overwhelmed by the support, a visibly excited Chef Sabiatu Mahazu used a ketchup plastic bottle as a microphone and began singing along.

Chef Sabiatu Mahazu is hoping to become the first Ghanaian to successfully attempt the cooking marathon world record.

Details of the ongoing record attempt

Speaking in an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh, Siddick Dramani, the manager and event organiser for Chef Sabiatu's cook-a-thon shared vital information on the ongoing world record attempt.

“She has cooked for 72 hours, 21 minutes, and has prepared 43 dishes since she embarked on the cook-a-thon,” he told YEN.com.gh.

Three other Ghanaian chefs, namely, Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak, Chef Abena Kwartemaa, and Chef Ebenezer Smith, have been unsuccessful in their quests to break the cooking marathon record.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual is held by Liberian-Australian Evette Quoibia, who set the record in Melbourne, Australia, on 19 February 2024, with a time of 140 hours and 11 minutes.

Ghanaian attempts world record for most lipstick applications
