John Mahama Attends Asantehemaa's Funeral, Lays Wreath in Her Honour

The four-day dote yie in honour of the late Asantehemaa began on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The President, together with several former Heads of State, was expected to climax the ceremony at the Manhyia Palace.
Mahama arrived in Kumasi on a white aeroplane. An entourage comprising the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, was at the airport to welcome the leader.

The President's presence at the funeral stoked the frenzy as scores of attendees erupted in joy on seeing him.
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, he was seen laying a wreath at Manhyia Palace in honour of the late Asantehemaa.
Mahama bowed in public, paying his last respect to the Asante monarch who served as the 14th queen mother since 2017.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III would be buried in a solemn traditional fashion, which requires the whole of Kumasi to be in solitude.
A curfew has been imposed, demanding that residents stay indoors throughout the evening to ensure the Asantehemaa’s burial rites are not interrupted.

Freemasons mourn with Otumfuo at Asantehemaa's funeral
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that a delegation of Freemasons had joined Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the late Asantehemaa's funeral on September 15, 2025.
The entourage, led by Most Worshipful Dr Nortey Kwashie Omaboe, consisted of members of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the District Grand Lodge of England.
Images of the Freemasons paying homage to the Asantehene at his sister's funeral, among other things, garnered many reactions from social media users.
