Nana Adabor Ibrahim Isaah Ampim, popularly known as Honourable Aponkye, a former assembly member aspirant who became a viral sensation in 2019, has opened up about his struggles following a life-changing accident.

Honourable Aponkye, whose rise to fame got him an opportunity to meet veteran broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, shared the circumstances that led to the accident that had left him relying on a crutch for mobility.

He detailed his past working relationship with Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) flagbearer Roman Fada and comic actor Mmebusem, or Ghana Jesus.

According to him, despite featuring in Mmebusem's projects, he was never paid even though their content generated income and secured deals with several brands.

Honourable Aponkye alleged that the comic actor once accused him of stealing his money from his residence, where he had stayed during their working relationship.

He detailed how the accusation caused friction between them and led to him cutting ties with him after an incident, which resulted in him losing money and his belongings.

Honourable Aponkye speaks about accident, seeks support

Speaking about his accident, Honourable Aponkye detailed how he began receiving threats from some unknown individuals after former presidential candidate Kofi Akpaloo contacted him to join his party and contest as a parliamentary candidate in the Asawase constituency.

Narrating how he got into the car accident, the viral sensation noted that the incident happened after he went to work on his documents for the parliamentary election.

He noted that he proceeded to walk towards a junction at Anloga Junction in the Ashanti Region when he was hit by a vehicle, whose driver sped off after the incident.

Honourable Aponkye stated that despite jumping to save his life, his right leg ended up under the car on the street.

The former assembly member aspirant noted that he suffered severe injuries to his leg and was immediately rushed to several hospitals, where he was unable to get proper treatment.

He stated that he was later taken to the Duayaw Nkwanta Government Hospital, where an operation was done on his leg.

Honourable Aponkye said several doctors had suggested that his leg needed to be amputated until a nurse directed him to the government hospital.

The social media sensation noted that Nana Aba sent an associate to check up on him while he was receiving treatment after the accident.

He also mentioned that a popular figure on social media, Kofi Akpaloo, provided financial support for his two surgeries.

Aponkye noted that his former manager Roman Fada had ignored him despite being informed about his plight.

He almost broke down in tears as he appealed to Ghanaians, including celebrities like Stonebwoy and Wendy Shay, for money for his third surgery, which he claimed would help him walk properly again.

Who is social media sensation Honourable Aponkye?

Honourable Aponkye was a social media sensation who gained nationwide recognition after a video of his interview went viral on social media.

At the time, he was contesting for the assembly member position in Adukrom Nima in the Ashanti Region.

Despite courting public attention and several interview sessions with top Ghanaian media platforms, Aponkye suffered an embarrassing defeat in the 2019 District Assembly and unit committee elections after his outrageous campaign promises.

He gained only 234 votes, representing 9% of the total votes, while the winner of the election, Abdul Rashid, won with 1056 votes, representing 40%.

However, Aponkye later threatened to challenge the district assembly and unit committee elections at the Supreme Court, citing fraud.

His comedic demeanour during the election campaign earned him the opportunity to meet Nana Aba Anamoah and create content with top stars, including Ghana Jesus, Lil Win, Nana Ama McBrown, and many others.

At the height of his fame, Aponkye also ventured into the Ghanaian music industry, releasing a few songs on YouTube.
