NPP’s Chairman Buga Calls for the Arrest of Mahama, Asiedu Nketia, Sammy Gyamfi, & Sam George
- Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third Vice Chairman of the NPP, has called for the arrest of President John Mahama and key NDC members
- Chairman Buga criticised Mahama's recent push to criminalise hate speech, pointing out the president's history of inflammatory remarks
- The controversy stems from Mahama’s statement about using technology to track individuals engaging in hate speech online
The third Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest President John Mahama and some leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Alhaji Osman said President Mahama, the Chairman of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia, the CEO of the Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, and Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, incited hate speeches in the past.

Chairman Buga made these remarks in the wake of President Mahama's decision to crack down on hate speech on social media.
Speaking at his first "Meet the Press" encounter on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, President Mahama stated that the government had deployed a system to identify people who hide behind social media to preach hate online.
He said the National Signals Bureau (NSB) has been provided with new tracking technology to use the IP address of every device to identify who is behind every message.
"The National Signals Bureau now has the technology to use your IP number and find you wherever you are. So, I’m sending a signal to Ghanaians that we can find you, those (engaged in) hate speech and similar activities. We’ll use your IP number, we’ll trace you. And when we trace you, we’ll deal with you under the criminal code for inciting violence and disturbing the peace," he warned.
Chairman Buga levels allegations against President Mahama.
Reacting to this in a media interview on Friday, September 12, 2025, Chairman Buga alleged that the President had, in the past, incited hate speech against the Akyem and Asante people.
He further questioned why the president would want to criminalise insults and hate speech on social media when he and his party members had engaged in it while in opposition.
"When did insults become a crime? I'm sending a warning and a caution to the IGP that if insults are a crime and can lead to arrest, then he has a lot of work to do. If insults are a crime, then the IGP must, in the first place, arrest John Dramani Mahama, Sammy Gyamfi, Sam George, and Asiedu Nketia," he said.
"Look, it's clear that the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, a former president at the time, made a categorical statement to insult a whole tribe. He was captured in a video, where he insulted all Akyems and labelled them as 'Sakawa'. At that time, the President of the land (Akufo-Addo) was an Akyem man. He even called them the 'Akyem mafia'. We were in Ghana when John Mahama said that the entire nation has a short memory. We were in Ghana when John Dramani Mahama said Asantes are ungrateful," he added.
