Patrice Evra has taken to social media to address reports of him facing a prison sentence as of late Friday, July 12.

The retired footballer garnered attention following news of his failure to meet alimony obligations and an alleged family abandonment case.

According to Le Parisien, Evra has been handed a suspended 12-month prison sentence after being found guilty of abandoning his family for two years.

The report also indicates that the 43-year-old allegedly owes over £800,000 in alimony payments to his former partner, Sandra Evra, and their two children.

However, the former Manchester United defender has since responded to these allegations.

Evra’s reactions to prison allegations

In a video shared on his Instagram, Evra sarcastically dressed in a prison jumpsuit and handcuffs while playing basketball in what appeared to be a prison yard.

Captioned "Let me shut down this rubbish news," the former France defender seemed to mock the circulating reports, cheekily stating he is "in jail" because news about him continues to break the internet.

Evra’s Lawyer reaction to prison allegation

The lawyer for the former Monaco star has also shared his thoughts on the ongoing news. In an interview as reported by Goal, Mr. Jerome Boursican stated:

"Mr. Patrice Evra filed an appeal, knowing that he provided his wife with an apartment, a house with a swimming pool in the south of France, and lent her nearly two million euros for her daily expenses. She refuses to return this sum, which is the reason for this trial."

Evra and his soon-to-be ex-wife will continue to battle this out in court. The date for his appeal hearing is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, Evra has started a new chapter in his personal life; he is engaged to Margaux Alexandra, and they have two children together.

Evra enjoys Jama with Ghanaian supporters

Earlier, Yen.com.gh reported that Evra arrived in Ghana on September 13, 2022, and was given a warm welcome.

In a series of trending videos, the former Manchester United captain was seen enjoying a 'jama' session with some Ghanaians at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Evra toured certain countries in Africa to boost the morale of their supporters ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
