- Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has fired back at Cristiano Ronaldo for criticising him
- The Al-Nassr superstar called out the Dutchman for saying the Red Devils are not ready to win the Premier League
- The former Ajax coach is under pressure after a poor start to the season and will be fighting to save his job
Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's comments about the club's and manager's ambition.
The Dutchman dismissed Ronaldo's sentiments but said he has a right to air his opinions.
Ronaldo and Ten Hag publically fell out in 2022, which resulted in the Portugal superstar joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
Earlier this week, the former Real Madrid star questioned Ten Hag's comments where he said the club is not ready to win the Premier League
"The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League. Manchester United coach... you cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the league or Champions League," via Sky Sports.
Ronaldo made a triumphant return to the club in 2021, but his spell ended bitterly. He parted ways with the club after falling out with the former Ajax manager.
Erik ten Hag responds to Ronaldo
Speaking ahead of Man United's away clash against Southampton on Saturday, Ten Hag aimed a subtle dig at the Portuguese star.
"No, he said this, if you read the article very well," Ten Hag said per BBC. "He is entitled to his opinion. It's OK. He is far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester."
Man United have not won a Premier League title since 2013 and have fallen behind rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.
In their first three matches of the 2024/25 season, they have suffered two defeats, including a painful 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Last season, Erik ten Hag was in charge as the club produced their world Premier League finish in the Premier League era.
Man United told to fire Erik ten Hag
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Man United legend Dwight Yorke advised Man United to get rid of Erik ten Hag and hire Zinedine Zidane.
The treble winner feels Zidane brings pedigree, which will attract some top players around the world.
The Dutchman is in his third season as coach and has won two trophies. However, the club's Premier League performances have been underwhelming.
