Manchester United fired Erik ten Hag on Monday following their contentious 2-1 defeat away at West Ham on Sunday.
The defeat left the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League after nine matches, and Sunday's loss proved to be the final straw.
The English giants will have to pay the Dutchman compensation after firing him early in the season, months after triggering a one-year contract extension.
Erik ten Hag was in his third season at Manchester United. He led the Red Devils to the League Cup and FA Cup, but his team suffered humiliating defeats in the Premier League. This season, the 20-time English champions have won four matches.
What will Man United pay Erik ten Hag?
INEOS, led by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, decided to stick with Erik ten Hag in the summer after a surprising FA Cup win over Manchester City.
However, with the team languishing in 14th in the Premier League and winless in the Europa League, they had to dismiss the Dutchman.
By firing him mid-season, the club will have to pay the former Ajax manager millions of pounds in compensation.
According to Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag earned a yearly salary of £6.75 million. After his sacking, he is entitled to severance pay, which could amount to £13.5 million.
Most coaches Man United have hired since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 have never finished their contracts, and the club has had to pay severance a few times.
Who will replace Erik ten Hag?
YEN.com.gh earlier listed several coaches who could replace Erik ten Hag after his departure from the coaching role.
