Pep Guardiola succumbed to yet another defeat when his Manchester City side lost 2-0 to Liverpool on Sunday evening.

The defeat extended the champions' winless run to seven games in all competitions as Liverpool ran out comfortable victors on home soil.

Mohamed Salah was once again in the thick of things, setting up Cody Gakpo's opening goal before dispatching a second-half penalty to ensure they kept maximum points.

As the game wound down, the Anfield crowd tried to rile up Guardiola, who was pacing on the touchline.

"You’re getting sacked in the morning," sang the home crowd.

The Spanish tactician responded by holding six fingers to the fans to signal the Premier League titles he has won at Manchester City. He then repeated the same gesture at halftime as he applauded the travelling fans.

Guardiola has a storied history with Liverpool's former boss Jurgen Klopp. Klopp only won the title once in 2019, with Guardiola guiding City to the title in other seasons.

The defeat has seen Liverpool open an 11-point gap over Manchester City after just 13 games. City now slip to fifth on the log, with Arsenal and Chelsea in second place, nine points behind the leaders.

What next for Pep Guardiola?

Manchester City's next game is against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, while Liverpool face a tricky tip to Tyneside to face Newcastle United on the same day.
