With just 34 days remaining before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Black Stars of Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has sent a strong warning to the country’s Group L opponents ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana have been drawn alongside England, Croatia, and Panama in what many fans and pundits consider one of the toughest groups at the competition.

Despite the challenge, Queiroz is confident about the Black Stars’ chances of progressing to the knockout stages.
On Friday, May 8, 2026, the former Portugal national team boss took to Instagram, writing:
“Dear Lads, 40 days to honour the pride, passion, and dreams of Ghana. Absolute focus. Maximum discipline. Total sacrifice. No distractions. No excuses. Only commitment to excellence. Think big. Believe big. Be Ready to deliver big. Greatness is a team united on and off the pitch by discipline, sacrifice, and the relentless execution of every small detail together. Time to rise for Ghana.”
According to FIFA, the four-time African champions will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing England in Foxborough.
Ghana will then conclude the group stage against 2018 finalists Croatia in Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, speaking to YEN.com.gh exclusively, former Ghana Premier League defender Aljhaji Abass Queiroz's chances of securing a contract beyond the World Cup largely depend on the team's performance.
''He [Carlos Queiroz] just came in and so whether the GFA will extend his contract or not depends on the impression he makes at the World Cup.''
Andre Ayew's World Cup fate
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Andre Ayew is at the heart of Ghana’s biggest 2026 World Cup selection debate as Carlos Queiroz weighs his experience against a younger attacking generation.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old veteran, who is currently playing for NAC Breda in the Netherlands with over 100 caps, was not selected in Queiroz's squad that will face Mexico in a pre-World Cup match on May 22.
