A brief history of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is a Ghanaian public university that was established in 1952. It located in Kumasi, Accra road. It started as Kumasi college of Technology in 1952 with teacher training students and later developed the Commerce and engineering departments. In 1953 the school of pharmacy and the agriculture department were opened to offer studies to leaving high school in the country. On 22 August 1961 through an act of parliament the Kumasi College of technology was transformed to University Kwame Nkrumah of Science and Technology.

The university is governed by the university council through the Academic Board. The university council is responsible for formulating and carrying out the academic policy and strategy of the university. The council is also responsible for supervising research regulating the award of degrees, diploma and certificates in the university.

Being one of the oldest universities in Ghana Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology offers a wide range of courses. The university is divided into various colleges which they offer different programs in the university.

The colleges include:

  • College of agriculture and natural resources- with the faculty of agriculture, the faculty of renewable natural resources, faculty of forest resource technology and research centres.
  • College of art and built environment- with the faculty of built environment faculty of art and art research centres.
  • College of humanities and social sciences with the faculty of law, faculty of social science, school of business and research a research centre for the college.
  • College of engineering with the faculty of civil and geometric engineering, the faculty of chemical and materials engineering, faculty of electrical and computer engineering, faculty of mechanical and computer engineering faculty of mechanical and agricultural engineering and engineering research centres.
  • College of health sciences with the faculty of allied health science school of medical sciences, faculty of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science, dental school a veterinary school and school of public health

International students

Kwame Nkrumah University is open to international students especially Nigerian students. The university has opened doors for Nigerian students and is now admitting Nigerian students for the 2020 academic year.

The entry requirements for Nigerian students are, you must have attained six credits at the G.C.E / IGCSE ordinary level including English mathematics plus three passes the G.C.E A’ Level in the relevant subjects. Or six credits in the WASSCE / SSSCE subjects including English and Mathematics.
