Early life
Efya's full name happens to be Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, alias Miss Jane. As a Ghanaian native, she was born and raised in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. Her mother is called Nana Adwoa Awindor, and happens to be a television host and filmmaker in Ghana. The singer comes from a family of four siblings that includes a total of two brothers and two sisters.
Education
Efya was a student in a girl's secondary school by the name Asantewa Secondary School located in Kumasi. She later moved together with her mother to the capital city of Ghana, Accra, following her mother's admission to the National Film and Television Institute (N.A.F.T.I.) school.
As a teenage girl, she was lucky to have talented family members who played a significant role in coaching Jane vocally, making her a great singer. As a result, she decided to undertake a theater and music course at the University of Ghana. Jane's passion for singing and learning enabled her to graduate with a degree.
Rise to fame
By enrolling for the Charterhouse's Stars of The Future, Jane managed to amaze the judges and the viewers of the T.V. show by her strong vocals. Even though she did not scoop the first position, she became the first runner up. As a result, she was awarded a free recording deal with Charterhouse.
The deal enabled her and the winner, Irene, to come up with a debut collaboration musical album named Unveiled, that was launched in South Africa.
Later on, the Ghanaian musician decided to go solo as soon as her contract with Charterhouse came to an end. As a sign of a new beginning, she decided to change her stage name from Miss Jane to here current popular mononym, "Efya."

Back in 2011, the beautiful Awindor managed to be signed by the record label "One Nation Entertainment."

Miss Jane's first album was a collaboration between her as the 1st runners up of Charterhouse's Stars of The Future show in partnership with the winner, Irene Logan. This was through a free record deal as part of their award.
T.I.N.T. that stands for This Is Not The Album was officially released on 12th November 2013. It contained a total of 13 songs. The songs are all about love as the dominant theme for her inspiration. T.I.N.T. comprises of Neo-soul, jazz, and R&B genres.

As Efya's third album, Janesis, was released on 22nd April 2016. The songs were inspired by her personal experiences. Some of the themes she featured ranged from love, hate, pain, among others. For example, Efya Forgetting me is an R&B/soul song that talks about an ending relationship and was released on 11th January 2014.
In the lyrics, she wonders if her lover has forgotten about her and reminisces about the love they made before the painful separation. On the other hand, Efya Until the Dawn is a lovemaking reggae beat song, with lyrics such as "I wanna make love to you until the morning, grow old and strong with you, until the morning, have a baby boy with you, we'll call him Kwame…" The song was produced by the famous producer Maleek Berry, who happens to have roots from both British and Nigeria.
Collaborations
Awindor has been privileged to work with some of the biggest names in the African entertainment scene. Such artists include; Akwaboah ft Efya and TxT in the song "Hold Me Down," which depicts a broken relationship and regret, Sarkodie ft Efya in the song "Saara," a love song that has gained over 1.5 million views on YouTube. Jane's vocals are also featured in the viral Wizkid single "Daddy Yo," among other numerous music collaborations.
