Early life

Emmanual Kofi Botchwey was born in Agona Swedru, Agona West Municipal District, Central Region, Ghana. Kwaw Kese tribe is Twi, a dialect of the Akan language spoken in southern and central Ghana, primarily by the Akan people.

He went to school in the local area and studied at Happy Home Junior Secondary School and Winneba Secondary School. At the age of 14, he started making music and performing songs at different events in school and the community.

After graduating from high school, Kwaw Kese went to work for the Electricity Company of Ghana in 1998. His role was to read customer meters to make it easy for the company to adjust its rates. He worked for the ECG for three years, but becoming a musician was his passion. In 2004, he went to Accra, Ghana to follow his dream of being a musician.

Kwaw Kese has been married twice in his lifetime. He has three children, although he lost a boy three days after he was born. In 2008, he married an American called Ann.

The two shared life for six years before divorcing in 2014. They settled their divorce in the USA, with reasons for their separation remaining unknown. Despite staying in the marriage for six years, Kwaw Kese and Ann did not have any children.

In April 2016, the rapper married his long-term girlfriend, Doris Nana Pokuaa Kyei Baffour. The two exchanged vows at a white wedding in Ghanaian capital and later performed traditional rites in Kumasi.

Kwaw Kese wife is also a celebrity, having played the role of Pokua in the TV series, Efiewura. She is also a businesswoman who owns a restaurant and boutique.

Currently, Kwaw Kese and Nana Pokuaa have three children. The names of his children are Van Ewurabena Botwe, Docilla Nana Hemaa Botchwey, and Sean Sahyoun. A person who identified herself as his sister Tiwaa said the hiplife artist had refused to attend the burial ceremony. However, Kese was quick to shut down the rumours by saying his biological mother was alive. His sister, Esi, also confirmed the allegations to be untrue.

Kwaw Kese professional career began in the early 2000s. After working for the ECC, he moved to Accra, Ghana to pursue his passion for music. While in the city, he met a record producer called Hammer of the Last 2 and signed for his label.

In 2004, Kwaw released his first single called Eye Nonsense on a compilation album titled The Execution Dairy. His first song was an instant hit. That prompted him to release a single in 2005 called Matsewo Kwakwa under the compilation album, Sounds of Our Time.

After releasing several singles through the Last 2 record label, he decided to start his company and called it Mad-Time Entertainment. It was an indie record label he founded in 2005.

The company gave him the freedom to produce as many songs as possible, which led to the release of two albums under his record label called Na Ya Tal and Abodam 07. The album received a nomination in 2007 for Discovery of the Year and Popular Song.

In 2008, the rapper won several awards, including Record Label Award for his Mad-time Entertainment and best video award for the song Wose Mbaa Pew.
