5 major takeaways from the vetting of Health Minister designate

The Minister-designate for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, faced the ministerial vetting committee today.

His vetting was to enable him provide answers to certain questions concerning the sector he would be ocuppying and how well prepared he is to man that ministry.

Answering questions during his vetting by the Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Agyemang Manu made some important points.

YEN.com.gh highlights some five major key takeaways from his vetting.

1. Construction of 88 district hospitals

The president in one of his addresses to the nation said stated that his government was going to construct some 88 District hospitals.

When quizzed about the 88 district hospital today, the health minister designate said the government was yet to cut sod for the construction to begin.

2. COVID-19 treatment centres

He said all the money that was supposed to be used for the COVID-19 treatment centres were used to procure PPEs, facemasks, sanitisers and gowns for doctors.

This according to him, stalled the project.

3. Drone to deliver COVID-19 vaccines

He said the medical drones will be used to deliver the COVID-19 vaccines to be administered.

4. No Bed Syndrome

Agyemang Manu said very soon, no patient would be turned away from any hospital because there are no beds.

5. 100 million USD for COVID-19 fight exhausted

The ministry of health was allocated with 100 million dollars to spend on the fight against coronavirus.

According to the health minister, all that money has been exhausted.

He added that ministry have gotten some more money.

In other news, founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has made a startling disclosure about the appointment of Council of State members under the current administration.

Speaking in an interview monitored by YEN.com.gh on Accra-based Starr FM, he alleged that the appointment of Council of State membership under President Nana Akufo-Addo is not based on merit.
