Helina, a Ghanaian market woman who was interviewed by YEN.com.gh's Nanaday as part of the usual market survey conducted by YEN has revealed she was able to buy two cars from the business.
According to the young lady, the cars are only some of the many things she was able to get for herself over the eight years she has sold the goods, as there is more that she cannot disclose on camera.
When asked why she decided to go into the sale of wele, also known as meat coat, the lady indicated that she had stayed with a woman who was into that business and decided to simply take over from her.
Helina mentioned that her business is very lucrative but in recent times, this has reduced significantly and she is planning to stop and learn a different trade.
She attributes the reduced profits to the high prices at which the goods are now sold at, at source, which the vendors like herself cannot impose on the customers.
When asked if there are any other downsides to the trade, Helina revealed that:
"The thing about the wele business is that you have to always keep yourself tidy because it leaves a strong stench on you. It can be on you everywhere you go. Sometimes, drivers don't even want to carry us due to the smell of the goods we are carrying," she said.
