Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has announced her intention to formally petition Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, demanding that Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin retract comments he made about her during the New Patriotic Party's "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration on Thursday, August 6.

The controversy arose when Afenyo-Markin publicly questioned the government's choice of Jantuah to receive the NPP's petition at the Presidency, arguing that her designation did not reflect the gravity of the issues the party had raised.

He reportedly referred to her as "a nobody," contending that the NPP had deployed its most senior leadership to present the petition and expected a comparable level of representation in response.

Speaking on Asempa FM later that Thursday, Jantuah described Afenyo-Markin's words as deeply insulting and incompatible with the conduct expected of a senior public official.

"I am old enough to be your mother. Afenyo-Markin is a small boy in my eyes. Who is he to disrespect me? He should never try that again," she said during the interview.

The Presidential Staffer confirmed she would take formal action, disclosing that a petition to Speaker Bagbin was already being prepared.

"I will petition the Speaker for Afenyo-Markin to withdraw what he said. He used to call me 'Senior.' What has changed? I am so mortified. I cannot comprehend what happened," she added.

The government assigned Jantuah to receive the NPP's petition at the Presidency during the party's demonstration, a role Afenyo-Markin publicly disputed as inadequate given the stature of those presenting the document.

Her decision to escalate the matter to the Speaker of Parliament signals that the disagreement is set to move beyond a public exchange of words and into formal parliamentary channels, placing additional pressure on Afenyo-Markin to address his remarks.
