Car Dealer Kwasi Rahman Shot Dead at His Residence in Ga South Municipality

A 50-year-old car dealer has been killed after a gunman opened fire on him outside his home at Beach Drive Estate, near Tuba in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The victim, identified as Kwasi Rahman, who celebrated his 50th birthday in July 2026, had been on an evening walk with his wife when the attack took place.

The assailant fired on the couple as they approached the entrance to their residence at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. Rahman died at the scene.

A resident in the vicinity told Citi News that the sound of gunfire prompted people to rush outside, where they found Rahman collapsed in front of his gate.

"I was outside around 9:50 when I heard what sounded like a gunshot. So I quickly went inside and told my mum that I had heard gunshots. When we came out, we saw people coming from down there. When I came out, I saw him lying in front of his gate. I didn't see anybody and I didn't hear any noise. It was just the gunshot I heard," the resident said.

The attack has unsettled residents of the estate, many of whom say security arrangements in the area fall well short of what is needed to keep them safe.

Family Calls for Justice, Raises Security Concerns

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, August 7, a relative of the deceased urged law enforcement to pursue a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law. "If the person who killed him is caught, they are supposed to be sentenced and even put in jail because he has to feel the pain of what he caused," she said.

The relative also raised pointed concerns about the standard of security at checkpoints within the estate, alleging that personnel on duty were unreliable. "The security is not tight. The security here is not tight, and any person they employ at the security checkpoint, most of them are drunkards. This is not the first time. Recently, they shot a certain boy in front of this gate, at the entrance. So the security here is not tight," she said.

She added that the timing of the attack, still relatively early in the evening, made it all the more alarming given the neighbourhood's otherwise quiet reputation.

Police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
