Despite its compact size, the mini truck can transport foodstuffs, furniture, building materials, electrical appliances and other goods. It is commonly seen around markets, shops and construction sites.
“Abossey Okai Macho” is not the official name of one vehicle. It is a popular Ghanaian nickname used for small work trucks such as the Daihatsu Hijet, Daewoo Labo, Kia Towner and some Kia K-Series models.

Current online listings show that heavily used or older units can be found from about GH¢35,000 to GH¢60,000. However, these cheaper trucks may require bodywork, engine repairs or new tyres.
Most properly working Daihatsu Hijet models are currently advertised between GH¢75,000 and GH¢98,000. For example, recent listings include a Hijet at GH¢75,000, several others around GH¢80,000 to GH¢86,000 and a cleaner 2014 model at GH¢98,000.
Bigger trucks such as the Kia Bongo can cost from about GH¢85,000 for older models to more than GH¢200,000 for newer or better-maintained versions.
A buyer should take a trusted mechanic along because the lowest-priced vehicle can become expensive if its engine, gearbox or suspension needs major repairs.
How much the truck could make
An owner can operate the Macho independently, rent it out or employ a driver to transport goods.
A short delivery within Accra could attract roughly GH¢200 to GH¢400, depending on the distance, load, waiting time and whether loading assistance is required. Handling three jobs could therefore produce between GH¢600 and GH¢1,200 in daily gross income.
A larger Kia Bongo is currently offered for hire within Accra at about GH¢1,200 per day, providing a useful market benchmark.
Working for 26 days could generate approximately GH¢15,600 to GH¢31,200 monthly before expenses. After fuel, maintenance, driver’s pay and other costs, a careful owner could retain around GH¢7,000 to GH¢15,000 in a good month.
The figure is not guaranteed. Regular customers from furniture shops, markets, hardware stores and online businesses would largely determine whether the truck becomes truly profitable.
