Several communities across Accra face power interruptions on Sunday, August 23, after the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) scheduled emergency works to replace a damaged transmission tower on the Tema–Achimota 161kV transmission line at Ashaiman.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Accra West Region, issued a public notice informing customers of the planned outage, citing damage to critical transmission infrastructure as the reason behind the intervention.

The damage occurred when a fuel tanker exploded while welding work was being carried out on the tank inside the transmission line's Right-of-Way (RoW).
The explosion compromised a key component of the high-voltage transmission network, making immediate replacement work necessary.
GRIDCo will begin the emergency exercise at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday and expects the work to be completed by 6:00 p.m., covering a window of up to 15 hours during which affected areas will be without electricity.
According to the ECG notice, two groups of communities across the capital have been identified as falling within the affected zones.
Households, businesses, markets, offices, and other electricity consumers in those areas should expect no power supply throughout the duration of the works.
ECG urged the public to take note of the planned interruption and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled window.
