"I had placed it on the table while lecturing, and when I left, I absent-mindedly forgot the phone," the lecturer stated.

Upon his return, it was apparent that the device had been taken away, but no student had claimed responsibility.

In a desperate attempt to retrieve his phone, the lecturer warned his students that he would impose academic sanctions if the phone was not produced.

"Please, if you took my phone, return it," he pleaded. "If you don't bring back my phone, then I'll punish all of you."

Entire faculty affected

The threat extends to all students, including those from the School of Computer Science and Information Technology plus Cybersecurity and the School of Applied Sciences.

"All students are affected. Payment is a must for everyone," he insisted. "I will give you an F in exams if you don't pay."

The lecturer demanded that each student contribute 3,000 South Sudanese Pounds (KSh 3,000) for a replacement phone with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB storage capacity.
