NDC's Hamza Suhuyini Slams Court Ruling Against Abronye as Politically Biased
- Lawyer Hamza Suhuyini criticised the trial court’s decision against Abronye, calling it illogical and lacking legal merit
- He accused the judiciary of political bias, referencing Mohammed Ibrahim’s case to highlight a troubling legal trend
- Suhuyini claimed the Judge's ruling continued illegal precedents set during the ex-president Akufo-Addo's administration
Lawyer Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team, has publicly denounced the recent ruling in the case involving Abronye.

The lawyer made his criticism at a political strategy event organised by UNIMAC at the Political Strategy Lab.
Suhuyini described the trial court's decision as one that 'defies every logic and legal principle' he has encountered in his career as a young lawyer. His remarks followed Abronye's arrest and subsequent remand by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Evelyn Asamoah.
At the time of filing this report, Abronye is facing charges including publication of false news, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, and threat of harm.
Suhuyini's criticism of Abronye's case
Suhuyini argued that the judgment lacked proper justification, warning that it reflected a troubling pattern where political influence overshadows legal merit. He drew parallels with another case involving a farmer, Mohammed Ibrahim, who was convicted under similar charges.
The NDC communicator reminded his listeners of the Atta Mills era, when the party sought to strengthen the separation of powers. But in his view, the recent ruling against Abronye highlights how political interference continues to haunt Ghana’s judiciary.

Suhuyini argues that this 'poor decision' is a negative legacy of the previous NPP administration under Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia.
He suggests the judge, who previously remanded the NDC activist, is acting based on a precedent set under the former government, perhaps in a misguided attempt to appear consistent or gather around favours.
In his words:
"So when I read the judgment, I saw it more as a self-serving agenda to force down a consistency narrative down our throats to defend. And that is not why the NDC won power. The NDC did not win power to continue the perpetuation of illegalities as far as our law courts are concerned."
