An 18-year-old South Sudanese woman named Athiak Dau is the talk of social media after she captured the attention of many admirers seeking to marry her.
Of the many suitors, Athiak finds herself at the centre of stiff competition between two wealthy men, Marial Garang Jiel and Chol Marol Deng.
First suitor already tabled dowry offer
Hot in Juba reports that Marial has already initiated traditional marriage rites and pledged an impressive dowry of 105 cows.
He also offered 2,000 dollars (approximately GH₵28,500.00) to secure Athiak's hand in marriage.
"However, the negotiations are far from over, as Chol is expected to present his proposal in the coming days," reads part of the report.
Chol is yet to reveal the dowry he is offering, but it is rumoured that he will pay 350 cows and a Toyota V6.
Decision to be made in Jonglei
According to The African History, he will also build a standalone four-bedroom house for the girl’s family.
The final decision is anticipated to be made at a cattle camp in Jonglei State, where the negotiation process will culminate.
In Jieng culture, dowries hold significant value, with offerings often reaching up to 500 cows and substantial monetary sums.
