However, it remains to be seen if Professor Seidu will be the only contestant for the Tamale Central by-election by close of day on September 10.
Addressing the media after submitting his nomination to the EC, the NDC's parliamentary candidate expressed optimism of retaining the seat for the party.
"This is the beginning of something remarkable, together with the good people of Tamale Central, we will deliver impactful results, Inshaa Allah," he said.
"We have gone through the processes, and everything has been successful. We are poised to campaign and win the seat. But whatever we do, we are mindful of circumstances within which our late MP passed, and we try as much as possible to be peaceful, decorous, and respect the general memory of our late MP. The seat is for the NDC to lose, and we are going to do everything possible to make sure that the NDC retains the Tamale Central seat, God willing," he added.

What necessitated the Tamale Central by-election
The Tamale Central by-election, slated for Tuesday, September 30, 2025, was necessitated by the death of the area’s MP, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, in a helicopter crash on August 6.
Before his untimely demise, Dr Mohammed was the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
Following the MP's demise, the EC set September 30, 2025, as the date to elect a new MP for the area and invited nominations from interested persons.
As a result of the EC's announcement, the NDC held a parliamentary primary on Saturday, September 6, 2025, to elect a candidate.
At the close of polls, Professor Seidu was elected as the NDC's parliamentary candidate for the upcoming by-election, defeating 11 other aspirants.
Professor Seidu previously worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, where he helmed the Political Science Department, before he was appointed by President John Mahama to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
