He also mentioned that, days before the arrest, he was tipped off by Appiah Stadium, a socialite affiliated with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), that EOCO was planning to pick him up.

"Appiah Stadium called to tell me EOCO would come for me after the burial of the helicopter crash victims. I packed my clothes, waiting for EOCO's arrest, knowing I was going to spend some days with them," he disclosed.

Circumstances of Kofi Akpaloo's arrest

On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the leader of the LPG was arrested at his Kumasi residence in the Ashanti Region.

He was subsequently released on Thursday, September 11, 2025, after spending over a week in EOCO custody.

According to Justice Srem Sai, the Deputy Attorney General, Kofi Akpaloo is under investigation on allegations of various financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.

However, responding to this upon his release, the LPG leader said he was arrested because of his comments on the military helicopter crash incident, which claimed the lives of five government officials and three crew members.

Kofi Akpaloo's helicopter crash comment sparks outrage

Reacting to the tragic helicopter crash in a radio interview, Kofi Akpaloo attributed the incident to divine intervention.

He explained that the fact the accident occurred on a cocoa farm was a symbolic reminder to politicians against lying to cocoa farmers.

He cited President John Mahama’s promise to increase the cocoa price from GH¢3,100 to GH¢6,000 as the basis for his claims.

These remarks, however, ignited public outrage, with many social media users labelling them insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the eight fallen national heroes.

Kofi Akpaloo later, upon reflection, rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and the families of the deceased.

"I'm not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I'm sincerely sorry and ask for forgiveness," he said.
