Tragic Accident: Four Killed as Sprinter Bus Crashes in Juaboso District

Four people have reportedly died after a sprinter bus was involved in a tragic road accident at Sefwi Asempanaye in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region of Ghana.

According to a report by GhanaWeb, the fatal accident occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, while the bus was travelling from Kumasi to Oseikojokrom.

The report indicates that the driver lost control after the bus developed a brake failure, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a culvert by the roadside.

The Unit Committee Chairman of Asempanaye, Simon Chebure, also known as "Papa Shee", said the accident resulted in the immediate deaths of four passengers, with several others sustaining injuries.

The injured were immediately rushed to nearby health facilities, with many currently receiving treatment at St. John of God Hospital in Sefwi Asafo.

He further explained that the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, as families continue to arrive at the scene to identify the bodies.

Meanwhile, the police have begun investigations into the cause of the accident amid rising concerns about road safety.

Buipe-Tamale highway crash claims 4 lives

Elsewhere, four people have died following a road crash on the Buipe–Tamale highway, involving a minibus and a truck at Sawaba No. 2.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 while the minibus was travelling from Buipe to Kumasi.

The Ghana National Fire Service, in a statement on Facebook, said its Buipe Fire Command responded to the crash.

Before firefighters arrived, 19 passengers had already been rescued and rushed to the Buipe Government Hospital for treatment.

Rescue teams later freed three more victims who were trapped in the wreckage of the minibus.

Despite the efforts, four people, two men and two women, died, three of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, while another died later at the hospital.

Preliminary findings suggest the trailer truck caused the collision before fleeing the scene.

The fire service said its timely intervention helped prevent further casualties and ensured that survivors received urgent medical care.

Recent fatal road crashes in Ghana

On January 11, a crash at Suhum Mankrong on the Accra-Kumasi Highway led to one death and 37 injuries.

3News reported that the 37 people who sustained varying degrees of injuries included 21 males and 17 females.

In a separate crash, seven people died, and 18 others were injured following a head-on collision between a Sprinter bus and a truck at Komenda Asamasa on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

A road crash on January 12, 2026, was one of the deadliest so far this year.

All seven victims, comprising three females, one of whom was pregnant, a baby and three males, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

A female passenger who had earlier been transported to the hospital was also pronounced dead, bringing the death toll to seven.
