Dumsor Alert: ECG Announces May 8 Power Cuts in Accra East and Ashanti Regions

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has confirmed that it will carry out a series of planned maintenance works on Friday, May 8, 2026.
These interventions, affecting the Accra East and Ashanti Regions, are part of a broader strategy to improve the stability of the national grid and ensure more reliable service for consumers.

According to official notices from the ECG, the scheduled outages are set to begin at 9:00 am in both regions.
In a publication sighted on Graphiconline, the ECG has indicated that the length of the disruptions will vary based on the specific technical requirements and the scale of the work needed at each designated site.
Affect areas in Accra East
In the Accra East Region, residents and businesses should prepare for an outage lasting from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
This eight-hour window will impact several prominent locations, including Ashongman Estate, Ghana Atomic Energy, and the Ga Municipal Hospital, as well as neighbouring communities.
The interruption is expected to affect both private households and significant public institutions.
Power outages in Ashanti Region
Consumers in the Ashanti Region will experience a shorter disruption, with maintenance work scheduled between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The areas listed for this three-hour exercise include C.Man Estates, Asikuma, Bebianiha, Meretweso, Esaase, and Nsuiem 1 and 2, along with their surrounding environs.
Power distributor apologises for inconvenience to customers
The ECG has expressed its regret regarding the looming disruptions to daily life and business operations.
In its public communications, the company apologised to those affected, noting that it recognises the inconvenience these technical works cause to both commercial and domestic activities.
