"Nobody Has Time to Read It": Mustapha Gbande Dismisses NPP's Petition to Jubilee House

A senior official at Ghana's Presidency has openly dismissed the formal petition submitted by the New Patriotic Party following its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration, declaring that no one in government intends to read the document.

Mustapha Gbande, who serves as Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency and also holds the position of Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, made the remarks on Joy FM.

Gbande rejects NPP petition

According to a report by GhanaWeb, Gbande was blunt in his assessment of the opposition's submission, stating that the petition lacked any meaningful content and would receive no attention from the executive branch.

"Let me assure you that that petition they have submitted, nobody is going to have time to read it because it doesn't make sense, and nobody is going to waste time. We have a nation to build. We have a country to build," he said.

The NDC official stressed that the administration's focus remains on governance and public service rather than engaging with what he described as political posturing by the opposition.

NPP's demo shows democracy is alive

In a pointed reframing of the opposition's narrative, Gbande argued that the demonstration itself served as evidence against the NPP's central claim.

He noted that the march proceeded without interference from the state, with security personnel deployed to maintain order throughout the event.

In his view, the fact that the NPP was able to organise and carry out the protest freely confirmed that constitutional rights and civil liberties remain fully intact in Ghana, directly contradicting the premise of the opposition's campaign.

The NPP had organised the "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration to raise concerns about the current political climate under the John Mahama administration, culminating in the presentation of a formal petition to the Presidency.

Miracles Aboagye cries over political victimization

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that NPP's Dennis Miracles Aboagye had voiced serious concerns about his personal safety during an interview on Joy News.

Aboagye had said he had written to the Chief Justice over what he described as selective justice in Ghana's political space.

The aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had warned that harmful political precedents could affect future administrations.
