Saglemi Housing: 700 Homes Due by March 2027 As Buyers Could Get Help With 10% Deposit

The revived Saglemi Affordable Housing Project is gradually moving closer to becoming available to Ghanaians, with fresh timelines announced for the completion of the first batch of homes.

President John Dramani Mahama, during an inspection of the housing project on August 20, 2026, said the first 700 housing units are expected to be ready by March 2027.

Another 800 homes are expected to be completed by December 2027, bringing the first batch of completed houses to 1,500.

After the completion of those units, attention is expected to shift to the remaining 3,500 homes under the original 5,000-unit Saglemi development plan.

Saglemi buyers could get 10% support

One of the most important announcements for prospective homeowners concerns the amount buyers may have to raise before accessing a mortgage.

John Mahama indicated that the Home Ownership Fund and other financial institutions are expected to support financing arrangements for the required 10% deposit.

This could make it easier for workers and other interested Ghanaians who may struggle to raise a large upfront payment.

Buyers are also expected to have access to mortgage arrangements that would allow them to spread the remaining cost of the house over a longer period.

However, the government has not yet announced the final selling prices, monthly mortgage payments or repayment periods for the homes.

Saglemi applications expected before handover

Ghanaians interested in owning one of the houses will also have to wait for the official registration process to begin.

The government has indicated that an official portal will be made available for prospective buyers, although the exact opening date has not yet been announced.

No official rental or sales prices have been released yet, so Ghanaians have also been cautioned against paying individuals who claim they can already secure a Saglemi house for them.
