Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has said Erik ten Hag lacks a few things after the club's poor start to the season.
McCarthy was ten Hag's assistant for two seasons, during which time he won two trophies before being replaced in the summer.
The 20-time English champions have lost three games this season, including against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag has stolen the headlines since his side was humbled 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, with many fans calling for his dismissal.
The club sits 13th in the Premier League table, and the Dutch coach reportedly has this week to save his job.
What did McCarthy say about Erik ten Hag?
The South African football legend said his former colleague lacks passion, which could hinder his success.
“In modern football, I believe that players want to see a bit more passion in their coach. They need to feel that the coach is with them and willing to fight alongside them,” McCarthy said via Football365.
He complimented his tactical ability.
“Tactically, I feel that Erik is at the top. He lacks a bit of that fire, that passion. That’s where we differ, him and I.”
Man United faces Porto and Aston Villa in their next two games; many believe they will determine ten Hag's fate.
Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, and Rudd van Nistelrooy have been mentioned as possible replacements.
