According to the EPL Index, the report states:
“The winger’s camp will maintain dialogue with Newcastle in the coming weeks and the direction of travel is a summer move, with the Bundesliga champions at the front of the queue.”
For Newcastle, the situation represents a key transfer moment as Gordon, who scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League games this season, has become central to Eddie Howe’s attacking system, offering intensity and directness.
However, the main stumbling block is valuation, with German sources suggesting a £20m gap between the two clubs’ assessments, further complicated by sell-on considerations.
It is also noted:
“Newcastle also have to consider Everton’s sell-on clause, which is 15 per cent of the profit.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle supporters will be concerned given Gordon’s importance, although the club remains in a strong negotiating position due to improved finances and European qualification ambitions, meaning a sale would only occur if an exceptional offer is made.
Anthony Gordon sets new Champions League record
As YEN.com.gh previously reported, Anthony Gordon delivered a stunning first-half performance, helping Newcastle United surge into a commanding 5-0 lead against Qarabag in their UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday, February 18, at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku.
BBC Sport reports that his hat-trick, completed in just 33 minutes, is now the fastest ever scored by an English player, and also by any player representing an English club, in the history of the Champions League.
