United States of America President Joe Biden has abandoned his re-election bid for the 2024 presidential elections.

In a statement on Sunday, July 21, Biden declared that he would not seek re-election, stating that this decision was in his party's and the country's best interest.
In the letter, Biden expressed that serving as president has been the greatest honour of his life.

"And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden said.
Biden, 81, said he will remain president and commander-in-chief until his term ends in January 2025 and will address the nation later in the week.
“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision," he added.
Biden's bold move comes after weeks of intense pressure from fellow Democrats, especially after a challenging debate against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that anger over rising prices and wages that don't stretch far enough had brought thousands of casino workers onto the streets of Las Vegas.
