President Donald Trump has made a second attempt to curtail automatic US citizenship for children born on American soil, signing two new executive orders on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

The US President's latest immigration move comes just weeks after the Supreme Court rejected his first, broader bid to end birthright citizenship.
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller confirmed the details of the orders, explaining that one targets the practice known as "birth tourism", where foreign nationals travel to the US specifically to give birth so their children can obtain American citizenship.
The second order widens the list of individuals whose children would be ineligible for automatic citizenship, including children born to foreign citizens who lobby on behalf of foreign governments.
