At just 16 years of age, Attah has gained international recognition standing today as one of the most internationally recognized Ghanaian actors. Abraham Attah, a Ghanaian teen actor became the first actor from Ghana to grace Oscars Award where he graced the 88th edition which took place in February this year. Abraham Attah Oscar’s appearance was meant for him to present the prestigious award for the best live-action that was shot alongside Jacob Tremblay, a 9-year-old star of Room, a psychological thriller.
The teenager deservedly won a number of awards for his role in the Beasts of No Nation, a critically acclaimed Netflix film. Here he played the role of Agu, an 11-year old orphan recruited to a guerrilla army in an anonymous country in West Africa. For this role Abraham Attah was honored with the Marcello Mastroianni Best Young Actor Award at the 72nd edition of the International Film Festival held in Venice in 2015. He also received the Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards.
According to Cary Fukunaga, the director of the Beasts of No Nations, Attah was just a street vendor whom he plucked from obscurity after he came across him playing football. At the time, he had zero experience in film and also little education. He however managed to become a professional actor in the course of shooting of this film, which was an astonishing progress. The youngster surprisingly landed a major Hollywood role in the film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
