The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is confident the Supreme Court will affirm the reelection of President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 polls.

Akufo-Addo secured himself another four-year term after collecting 51.302% of the votes to defeat the flagbearer of the NDC, former President John Dramani Mahama, who polled 43.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.

Mahama rejected the outcome of the elections, challenging it at the Supreme Court.

Reacting to the petition, the NPP’s director of communication, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, said the legal team of the president is ready to expose the emptiness of the petition and the continuous denial that Akufo-Addo indeed won the election “without any iota of doubt.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, December 31, 2020, and sighted by YEN.com.gh, Asamoa said the NPP’s response will show that the NDC presented no material evidence of value in Court to support its blatantly false claims regarding the results of the 2020 presidential polls.

In other news, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) legal team, Dr. Dominic Ayine, disclosed that the party has no evidence Mahama won the 2020 presidential race

Speaking in an interview with GHone TV on Thursday, December 31, 2020, the former Deputy Justice Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration said: “We never said that we won the [presidential] election.”

“If we were convinced that we won this election we would have stated that in the petition,” Dr. Ayine who’s also the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East added.
