NDC shall not recognize Akufo-Addo as the President - Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will not acknowledge Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Ghana’s president.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday, January 8, 2021, the general secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said: “Let me state without any equivocation that the NDC shall not recognize Akufo-Addo as the President of Ghana until all issues surrounding his flawed elections are satisfactorily resolved.”
The flagbearer of the NDC in the 2020 polls, John Dramani Mahama, rejected the outcome of the elections as declared by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
He filed a petition at the Supreme Court to in his words remove doubts in the minds of Ghanaians over the credibility of the electoral process.

However, a member of the legal team of the NDC and former Deputy Justice Minister in Mahama’s administration, Dr. Dominic Ayine, stated that there was no evidence his former boss won the election.
“We never said that we won the presidential election,” he told GHONE television on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 7, 2021, took the oath of office for another four-year term.

In other news, hundreds of supporters and sympathisers of the NDC have thronged the streets of Damango to demonstrate against the reelection of Akufo-Addo barely 24 hours after taking the oath of office.

The NDC and its presidential candidate in the 2020 polls have rejected the outcome as declared by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
