Mohammed Kudus scored a stunning freekick as the Black Stars defeated the Central African Republic (CAR) 2-1 in their 2023 AFCON qualifier.

The Black Stars locked horns with the Wild beasts of CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, needing a win to qualify as the group leaders.

After starting on a good note, the Black Stars failed to find a breakthrough and were jolted after CAR broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through a Louis Mafouta strike.

The goal affected the game of the Black Stars and swung the game in favour of the Wild Beasts.

Kudus scores stunning freekick against CAR

Finding it difficult to create clear-cut chances, the Black Stars had to rely on the brilliance of Kudus for an equaliser.

The West Ham United forward scored a freekick after 43 minutes, beating the CAR keeper Geoffrey Lembet with a curling shot from just outside the 18-yard box.

Olympique Lyon's Ernest Nuamah scored the winner in the 87th minute after a fine pass from Antoine Semenyo.

Meanwhile, a staunch fan of English Premier League side West Ham United fan came down to watch the Black Stars' game in Kumasi.

In a video, the elderly-looking white man revealed that he travelled all the way to see Kudus play for the Black Stars because he loves the 23-year-old.
