Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya Offered Diplomatic Passport by Foreign Affairs Minister

Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Wode Maya, has been offered a Diplomatic passport by Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

This was announced by the minister on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, on his Facebook page.

"I announced today at the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit that, based on the authority conferred on the Foreign Minister of Ghana under NLCD 155, we are honouring the following outstanding Ghanaians with Diplomatic Passports," he wrote.

However, Wode Maya, known in private life as Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, has proven himself a worthy ambassador of Ghana by promoting the country to the rest of the world, and for that reason, deserves the diplomatic passport.

Other prominent Ghanaians receive diplomatic passports

Aside from Wode Maya, other prominent Ghanaians in the media, entertainment, and business sectors were also granted diplomatic passports.

They include Anita Erskine, broadcaster and media personality; Ibrahim Mahama, a renowned visual artist; and Dentaa Amoateng MBE, entrepreneur and founder of GUBA Enterprise.

Government recalls diplomatic passports from former appointees

Earlier this year, Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled diplomatic and service passports issued under the previous administration.

It targeted former officials, ministers of state, former Members of Parliament, and former government appointees, as well as some prominent Ghanaian preachers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, President John Mahama, through his Executive Secretary, explained that the decision to recall the passports was to ensure their proper use, prevent misuse, and protect Ghana's integrity.
