On his recent stint on Wontumi FM, the politician empathised with Shatta Wale, whose legal battles with EOCO shook the country.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) saw an upheaval at its headquarters in Accra. Fans stormed the security premises in their numbers following the news that Shatta Wale had been detained the night prior.
Shatta Wale was detained in connection with several criminal investigations, with detectives probing his alleged involvement in money laundering and tax evasion.
Before he was detained, EOCO confiscated Shatta Wale's 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to an FBI case in which Shatta Wale and a former officer of the National Signals Bureau are persons of interest.
Hundreds of die-hard fans, some wielding weapons, picketed at EOCO's headquarters, demanding Shatta Wale's release.
According to Paul Yandoh, Shatta Wale's saga with EOCO is unfortunate and a mirror reflection of how the financial crime tried to bully his boss. Chairman Wontumi of the NPP.
"When he got Wontumi and placed a 50m bail condition. We didn't get anyone to tell him he's wrong. Parliamentarians went to protest, but he paid them no mind. Gradually, he's extending it to everyone else," he said.
It's unfortunate. Shatta Wale has toiled to brand himself and get to this level, why try to disgrace him?. What they're doing is unfair. When people rise to a level of international repute, we must try not to frustrate them with the government's frustrations," Paul Yandoh noted.
