TikTok Star Sydney Towle Dies at 26 After Three-Year Cancer Battle

Social media has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular TikToker Sydney Towle after tragically losing her fight with a rare bile duct cancer.

Towle died at the age of 26 on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, of complications from metastatic cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive cancer of the bile ducts, the BBC reported.

Her brother, Austin, announced on August 4 that she had entered hospice care surrounded by friends and family, according to Yahoo Entertainment.

"Syd went peacefully last night after an almost three-year-long battle with cholangiocarcinoma," Austin said in a TikTok video alongside their mother.

Who was Sidney Towle?

Sidney Towle was born on November 15, 1999. She studied government and environmental studies at Dartmouth College and built a following of more than 450,000 on TikTok before her diagnosis.

She was diagnosed with late-stage intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in 2023 after noticing a bulge in her abdomen. Her audience later grew to more than a million on TikTok and over 200,000 on Instagram as she chronicled her cancer journey online.

She moved to New York City to be closer to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre and documented chemotherapy, surgeries and hospital stays. In May, she disclosed that the cancer had spread to her peritoneum and that her oncologist had recommended end-of-life care. She sought a second opinion instead, the BBC reported. Weeks later, she modelled in a swimsuit show during Miami Swim Week, fulfilling a longtime dream.

The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, for which she served as a community champion, said she "could have stayed isolated in her experience, but she invited the world in, so no one had to be alone in their struggles."

TikToker dies during cosmetic surgery
