Lady in UK Celebrates As She Gets New Ghana Passport, Praises Mahama in Trending Video

A Ghanaian lady based in the UK could not contain her excitement after she received her chip-embedded Ghana passport.

Taking to TikTok to share her excitement in a video, the young lady @linosei, who appeared excited, was seen admiring the new passport.

She opened the passport to examine its features and even compared the Ghanaian passport to the British one.

The young lady also praised the staff at the Ghana High Commission in London for their effectiveness.

She then turned her attention to the President of Ghana, John Mahama, and commended him for the innovation.

"A friend informed me that this was carried out by the new NDC government, so I will say President Mahama has done well", she said with a smile on her face.

The chip-embedded passport was launched in Accra on Tuesday, April 28, 2025, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Ghanaian celebrities receive new passports

Top Ghanaian celebrities who have been issued with the chip-embedded passports include Ghanaian actresses Yvonne Okoro and Lydia Forson.

Popular social media influencer KalyJay also received his first official copy of the chip-embedded passport.

Other political figures like the Minister in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, had also received their chip-embedded passports.

According to the minister, his department was ready to begin the mass rollout of the chip-embedded passport.

Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post, also said the new passport is expected to replace the old biometric version, which will be completely phased out by the end of 2030.

At the time of writing this report, the video had generated over 800 likes and 40 comments.

Ghanaian man receives passport within days

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a Ghanaian man got tongues wagging after he opened up on his passport acquisition experience.

This comes after he took to TikTok in a video to share that he had received his passport within six days, far earlier than the usual expected timeline.
