- The latest data from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has shown a huge disparity in Ghana's pension earnings
- While the lowest pensioners saw a significant 25% increase in their monthly payments, the top earners' income rose by just 8 per cent
- This highlighted the ongoing inequality in pension distributions and the different rates of increase applied in the 2025 indexation
The latest National Pensions League Table report released by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has shown how much Ghanaian pensioners earned in January 2025.

The data also showed that the lowest pension earner received a paltry GH¢514.41. This means that the top pension earner's income is 392 times higher than the lowest pension beneficiary.
This gap highlights the obvious disparity in pension payments in Ghana. It also highlighted the different rates of increase applied to pensions in the 2025 indexation.
While the lowest-paid pensioners saw a rise of over 25 per cent in their monthly payments, the top earners' income increased by eight per cent.
The highest-paid pensioner, for instance, saw an 8.04 per cent increase, from GH¢186,777.58 in December 2024 to GH¢201,792.37 in January 2025.
However, the lowest-paid pensioner enjoyed a 25.74 per cent rise, from GH¢409.10 to GH¢514.41.
The Indexation of Pensions 2025 league tables show the top 10 highest and lowest pension earners.
The highest earners receive pensions as high as GH¢58,031.91, while the lowest earners have payments up to GH¢669.54.
This dramatic contrast highlights the vast differences in pre-retirement contributions and earnings that determine SSNIT pension benefits.
The data provides a clear snapshot of the economic inequalities that extend into retirement for Ghanaians dependent on the national pension scheme.

"201 thousand just for a pensioner eiiiiiii 😀 and 500 for another pensioner eiiiiiii Ghana. Those with the big pension benefits are the directors and CEO who increase their basic salaries when they are about to go on retirement. The poor workers hmmm 🤔🤔🤔 it's sad."
@Benjamin K. Aidoo commented:
"You realize pensioners die very early just after going on retirement in Ghana because of the pain and anguish they pass through in living on this meagre sum of money"
